Manitou and StratMan, LLC. Have teamed up in 2021 to undertake a remote Formative Evaluation of the program “UNICEF Parenting for Child Development Programme” in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Dr. Nichols created the analytical frameworkqualitative and quantitative tools, and inputs required for ethical clearance to assess parent and child perceptions about harsh disciplining practices. Her role also included training field teams to survey 128 parents and engage 60 adolescents in focus groups to discuss parenting practices and domestic violence in the home. While these topics are highly sensitive in the PNG context, the evaluation report presents strong insights about how men and women still struggle with maltreating their children, although some positive gains were also evident.
